Are you wearing off make-up?

What is the the lifespan of your beauty products?
Do you have endless amounts of beauty products in your bathroom cabinet and make-up bag and have no idea how old they are? Has your mascara turned clumpy and dry or has your fragrance turned an off-colour and smells differently?
It could be time to clean out and update your products — not matter how attached to them you're, do yourself a favour and update.

Mascara
Mascaras are the most important products to update regularly. From the time you open a mascara, give yourself three months and it's time to trade it in. Your eyes are super important and you don't want to risk an infection, plus a fresh, clean wand will give you a better result than one that is past its used by date.

Eyeliners
We recommend using pencil eyeliner because you can sharpen it regularly to rid any lingering eye infections. A new pencil every 6 to 12 months is a must and remember never share your eye make-up with friends, this will avoid infections.

Lipsticks and glosses
Lipsticks can generally last between one and two years, as soon as the colour starts fading or you see bubbles appearing on the stick, this means it's time to go and heat has affected the ingredients.
Glosses housed in a tube and use a wand applicator should be replaced every three to six months, because when you double-dip bacteria begin to live in the tube. Like eye make-up, it is important not to share lipsticks and glosses with friends; you run the risk of cold cores and other infections if you do.

Fragrance
Luckily fragrances can be kept a little longer than most other products, provided you take good care of them. Always store your fragrances away from direct sunlight and heat and they will last you between two and three years. If you see a colour change in the product or it starts to smell differently — it's time to invest in a new one.

Powders
Powders, bronzers and blushes can go on and on and on… but to keep them clean and free of grime and oil, it's imperative you wash your brushes once a week or even better, use disposable applicators. Give them 12 to 18 months and then upgrade.

Foundations
Foundation is the base to a great make-up look. They're the skin perfectors that give you a flawless complexion, so it's important to keep them clean and fresh. Bottled foundations with a pump can last you up to 12 months, but if you're using a compact foundation, with a sponge or brush applicator, update every four to six months. Wash your brush or sponge weekly.

Creams
It can be hard to decipher if a cream is off. If its ingredients have separated or it has started to smell funky, throw it out. Six to eight months for products that have been opened is a good rule of thumb.
