It’s
a natural transition, as all models do a bit of acting on their photo
shoots, it’s just in front of a different kind of camera… and they don’t
have to worry about things like, words. But as is evidenced by some of
the most anticipated recent releases, a lot of them have no trouble
talking.
Here’s our rundown of our favorite new pretty girls to watch, and a nod to a few of our older (meaning like over 30) faves.
Brooklyn Decker
Brooklyn’s back story is what American dreams are made of: she was discovered as a teen, in a mall. Not just a model, Decker was a much-loved addition to the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue (which means that at some point she ate enough food to grow boobs). After a few TV appearances she made it big opposite Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in Just Go With It. Brooklyn continues to get bigger, and is in two movies opening this very weekend, What To Expect When You’re Expecting, and Battleship.
Lily Cole
The English equivalent of the Brooklyn Decker story, Lily was also discovered by chance. Ranked as one of the richest young Brits, if you can name an amazing photographer, designer or a fabulous brand, she has probably worked for them. A reluctant muse for many, Lily remains dedicated to her education, charity and environmental causes. Making the transition to film, she was recently seen in the horror flick The Moth Diaries, and has a part in the much anticipated Snow White and the Huntsman.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Otherwise known as the girl from Transformers: Dark of the Moon that wasn’t Megan Fox. Another British beauty, she grew up isolated on a farm and was often bullied for some of her now-signature physical features. Quickly climbing the modeling ranks, she eventually earned her wings as a Victoria’s Secret “Angel.” Her big screen debut was met with tepid enthusiasm, but we’re sure once she’s out from under the shadow of Fox, this delicate beauty will once again come into her own. And PS, you know she has to be cool cause she dates career badass Jason Statham.
Cameron Diaz
This SoCal beauty left home at 16 to spend the next five years traveling the world as a model. At 21 her agency landed her an audition for The Mask. 35 movies (and a long term stint with Justin Timberlake) later, she’s officially worked her way onto that good-time list of celebs we’d all like to hang out with. She can also be seen this weekend in What To Expect When You’re Expecting.
Charlize Theron
An accomplished ballet dancer and aspiring actress, this South African stunner seemed to have modeled as more of a calculated means to an end. It worked, she has an impressive IMDB profile and an Oscar for Best Actress, no big. As a strong and single mother of a newly adopted son, she’s an excellent model of feminine independence and strength. As far as her career goes, she’s about to take a turn for the nasty as the villain in the forthcoming Snow White and the Huntsman.
