Keep Your Bathroom Organized

Have you ever noticed how much stuff accumulates in the bathroom? Sure, our beauty routines require quite a few products, but that doesn't mean you have to live with a mess! Here we offer 10 tips to organize your bathroom.

Pitch it

Before you start organizing, you should make sure that you don't have extraneous items that need to be thrown away, not put away. Check the expiration dates on vitamins and medications in the medicine cabinet. Throw away expired sunscreen too. Also, keep tabs on how long you've had your makeup. Each product — lipstick, eye shadow, mascara — has a different shelf life. Now is not the time to get sentimental about any of your bathroom products. If you're not using it, toss it. Think of it this way: You'll have more room for new products!

How's it hangin'?

Hang a magazine rack on the wall so you can take that stack of magazines off the back of the toilet tank. Consider a spot that is out of the way and won't take up additional usable space in the bathroom (especially if it is small). However be sure that it is also in a locale that is convenient for the user … if you know what we mean.

Divide and conquer

Use utensil organizers for drawers in which you have elastic hair bands, bobby pins, safety pin, cotton swabs, etc. This way, everything has a designated spot and you'll be able to locate exactly what you need when you need it, instead of rummaging through a bag of mixed of hair clips/bands that will inevitably get tangled and give you more grief!

Sample me not

Do you tend to hold on to tiny soaps and miniature bottles of shampoo and conditioner from hotels you've frequented? Do you actually use these items or are you saving them for a rainy day? You certainly don't need them for travel, since you'll likely be staying at a place that provides — you guessed it — more tiny soaps and mini bottles of shampoo and conditioner.

Contain the clutter

Store kids' bath toys in a mesh bag that allows them to drain and dry when not in use. Make sure cleanup is part of the routine every time your kids bathe. For shampoos, conditioners, body washes and shave gels, invest in a caddy that sticks to the shower wall, attaches in a corner or hangs from the shower faucet.

Cabinet revamp

The cabinet under the sink tends to become a place where everything just gets shoved in and forgotten. Take inventory and, again, toss what you don't use (old scour pads, empty cleaning supplies, etc.). Invest in another caddy, one with a handle, for cleaning products so you can easily move it from bathroom to bathroom when you are cleaning.

Ribbon renewal

Organize your daughter's hair clips while displaying them as well. After all, those darling bows are so adorable; don't you want to show them off when she's not pulling them out of her hair? Hang a pretty piece of ribbon on the wall and attach all the clips to the ribbon. Each piece will always be in sight so she'll have them at her fingertips.

Constantly clean

Instead of allowing you bathroom to become a cluttered mess before you clean it, tidy up a little bit each day. This little step will save you tons of time in the long run. Keep disinfectant wipes under the counter (in the caddy!) so you can wipe down counters once you put everything away.

Cord less

Try to purchase hairstyling accessories such as blow dryers, hot curlers and straight irons that have retractable cords. At the very least, always wrap up the cord as neatly as possible when you are finished with it. But don't forget to let it cool first.

Hand-y towels

Put a stand-alone shelf or rack above the toilet for added storage. This is ideal for a few extra hand towels, fancy guest soaps or simple decorations.
