1 avocado
3 drops liquid stevia, optional

In a Juicer, juice the cucumber, celery, lemon, ginger and pear.  Pour this juice in a high speed blender with the spinach, broccoli and avocado and blend til creamy and smooth.  If you wish, sweeten just a tad more with a few drops of stevia.  Enjoy with a straw and share or pack the 2nd glass for mid morning or for lunch.  *note: If you can learn to enjoy the green juice without the pear or stevia, this is ideal for alkalizing and is mandatory for anyone who is not well and is working to eliminate symptoms.

5 GREEN SMOOTHIE TIPS

1. For the best ratio, follow the 60/40 formula. For example: 3 cups fruit, 2 cups dark leafy greens, 1-2 cups of water. Makes 32-40 oz or 4-5 cups.

2. If bitter or too “green tasting,” add an extra dose of nature’s sweetener.Sometimes, smoothies can taste a little bitter or overpowering from the leafy greens. To fix this, just add a natural sweetner such as bananas, mango, apples, pears or pitted dates.

3.For optimal nutrient content, drink your smoothie right away. Fresh is always best, but sometimes you will have leftovers. Store in airtight containers, like a mason jar with lid, to limit oxidation (which breaks down nutrients and changes the color.) You can keep green smoothies in the fridge for 24 – 48 hours.

4.Change up your liquid base from time to time. Water is a great base for green smoothies, but it’s nice to change it up and incorporate more nutrients and vitamins occassionally. Coconut water is low in fat and calories, yet high in potassium, vitamins, minerals and electrolytes. For a more creamy texture, add unsweetened nut milks to your smoothies like almond milk or coconut milk, which are packed with bone-building calcium and vitamin E.

5.Want your green smoothie to be extra chilly? Freeze your favorite fruits like ripe bananas, grapes, pineapple or berries. This is also a great way to not waste ripe fruits and veggies.

WHAT IS GLUTATHIONE?

Glutathione is produced naturally in the liver. It is made up of three amino acids, and it is vital for cellular metabolism. It protects against oxidative stress caused by free radicals, is required for the immune system to function properly, and is a potent detoxifier.

The importance of glutathione has been validated by over 92,000 scientific articles, more than twice the amount that has ever been published about vitamin C. In fact, nutrition experts believe that it is just as necessary for our health as oxygen, food and water.

WHY DO WE NEED GLUTATHIONE?
Glutathione helps other antioxidants and nutrients do their jobs properly. Without it, no amount of supplementation or healthy eating will do us any good. In addition, since our immune system depends on this substance, a lack of it causes us to get sick more often. It also protects our mitochondria, which provide energy to our cells. Our mitochondria are very vulnerable to the effects of free radicals, so if glutathione weren't present they would deteriorate very quickly and our cells would die.

Furthermore, this antioxidant helps our body get rid of toxins. This is important, because most of us are exposed to dangerous chemicals on a daily basis. In fact, a study by Cornell University found that over 60% of the world's population is harmed by air pollution, and the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health recently found that almost 900 of the chemicals used in cosmetics and skincare products are toxic.

Although glutathione is produced naturally in the body, its levels begin to decline at around twenty years of age. From that point, they decrease by 8% to 12% every decade.
By the time a person is 50, these levels are only at 60% to 70% of what they were in their teens
The level of glutathione in our body is also lowered by sickness, toxins and other things that cause physical or emotional stress. Because it is nearly impossible to avoid these things with our modern lifestyle, most people do not have enough glutathione in their bodies.

How to Boost Your Glutathione Levels

The fact that you are now reading this information suggests you already know that Glutathione is the body's master antioxidant and detoxifier. Therefore, you are probably looking for ways to increase your glutathione levels.

Glutathione is produced naturally in our body from foods containing amino acids. Raw foods are much better than cooked foods at providing the essential ingredients or building blocks.
Super Foods:
Broccoli, Avocados, Asparagus, Spinach and Tomatoes are the most effective food based glutathione boosters.

Fruit & Vegetables:

All types of fresh fruit and vegetables are good for your general health as they provide the necessary ingredients for natural glutathione production. However, they generally have much greater nutritional value when eaten raw rather than cooked.
Apart from the Super Foods already mentioned above, other cruciferous vegetables (i.e. of the mustard family) such as brussel sprouts, kale, cabbage and cauliflower are the most effective. The antioxidants contained in these foods assist the body to fight off diseases such as cancer and have also been shown to aid weight loss.

Meat, Eggs & Spices:
Raw eggs, fresh unprocessed meat and spices such as turmeric and garlic also contain high levels of amino acids the body requires for the production of natural glutathione.Whey Protein:Un-denatured Whey Protein, i.e. the non-heated form, is another good source of sulphur containing amino acids.
