There are many types of oil on the market, so you can easily confuse about each type’s function as well as the way to use them. Here are some healthy cooking oils and way to use them properly.
Peanut oil
Peanut oil is known as essential ingredient in Asian foods. It’s also easy to cook with. Peanut oil is a good way to fry meats because of its high smoke point, around 220ºC. A smoke point is the temperature at which oil will begin to burn.
Sesame oil
Sesame oil is made from roasted sesame, therefore its smell is so good and smoke point is very high as well. Sesame oil is high in magnesium, copper, calcium, iron, and vitamins B6 and vitamin E. Work best if using sesame oil as spice because it adds great flavor to many dishes. There are 2 types of sesame oils: black sesame oil and white sesame oil. White sesame oil has a distinct nutty taste, suitable for salad or sauce. Meanwhile, black one has stronger taste, adds great flavor to Asian cooking.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil is quite easy to cook with, but it still works best at high smoke point. You can use coconut oil instead of other fatty oils for frying or just adding some distinct flavor for your dishes.
Corn oil
Corn oil is light and good for frying foods, its highest possible temperature is 180ºC. It’s a great source of vitamin E and polyunsaturated fat also.
Canola oil
Canola oil is great for frying, stir-frying, baking and grilling. It’s low in saturated fats and adds great flavor to almost any dish. Therefore, it’s very healthy cooking oil.
Olive oil
Olive oil’s good impact on health is something can’t be denied. Olive oil’s distinct flavor, combined with its portfolio of heart-healthy ingredients, makes it one of today’s most popular oils. Olive oil is perfect for cooking light meals and is widely used in a number of Italian and Spanish dishes.
Soybean oil
Soybean oil is, as the name suggests, a vegetable oil derived from soybeans. It’s a great source of omega-3 content, vitamin E and polyunsaturated fatty acids; Soybean oil is great for sauting meats and vegetables on low temperature.
Vegetable oil
Vegetable oil is a mixture of corn oil, canola oil and other fatty oils. Housewives are so in love with this oil and most of them use it for daily cooking. With high smoke point, vegetable oil is great for frying and baking as well.
